A Note for ProfessionalsAs a conscientious professional, I am sure it is your desire to contribute whatever you can at the end of life for your patient, congregant or client. Studies show that many patients and family members do want to communicate with their care professionals about preparing for death. Facing Death: A Companion in Words and Images can help. Facing Death does not take the place of professional support for the dying and those closest to them. It may, however, facilitate connections and help open the door to a conversation about what matters most in the moment. Providing this book directly, or at least recommending it, is something you can do with confidence (see Reviews). IN ADDITION, FACING DEATH CAN BE THERE WHEN YOU ARE NOT! In the middle of the night or a busy day of whatever sort for you, this book can be sampled to good effect. It can also be shared actively with loved ones and thus build and help resolve relationships between the dying person and others. Follow-up discussions may prove very beneficial. I invite you to acquaint yourself with the book and consider it a part of your "tool kit" as you undertake to do your job well and serve those in your care. Also, please check out and contribute to my blog, if you are interested. Facing Death has won three awards to date: the 2009 USA Book News National Best Book Award in the Spirituality: Journaling & Quotes category, the 2010 Benjamin Franklin Award for Excellence in Publishing in the Gift Book category sponsored by the Independent Book Publishers Association, and the 2010 National Mature Market Silver Award in the Book (Editorial) category.
